Mosta Day and Festa Qargħasel will be held on the 16th and 17th of September this year, featuring a multitude of events spread over two days.

In Mosta, the tradition of honey and pumpkin pie has deep roots in our history. As Mosta was predominantly a farming community, pumpkin pie served as an affordable and filling meal for workers and families.

The bee population in Wied il-Għasel was so abundant that honey would reportedly seep from the rocks in the valley, giving rise to the name Qargħasel.

This festival showcases and promotes local culture, traditions, crafts, foods, and communities.

Attractions such as Mosta Church and Ta’ Bistra Catacombs will be open for public visits, ensuring a delightful and entertaining experience for all attendees.

Festa Għeneb 2023

16 September 2023 – 17 September 2023
From 6:00 pm to 11:59 pm
Pjazza San Nikola, Siġġiewi, Malta

Festa Gheneb is an activity for the whole family that aims to celebrate the harvesting of grapes (vendemmia) from the vineyards located in Siġġiewi. With more than 530,000 square metres of vines, Siġġiewi is the locality with the largest number of vines. It is estimated that more than 400 families from Siġġiewi are directly involved in planting and maintaining a large variety of vines.

This led to much more agricultural land being reused, with great benefits for the rural environment of Siġġiewi.

During this year’s edition, there will be:

– A traditional grape garden in a large stone basin built in San Nikola Square

– Wine competition

– Display and sale of a large variety of grapes and wine

– Traditional Maltese food such as bread with oil, pastizzi, mqaret, thorned eggs, etc., as well as other food made from grapes, will be served during the activity.

– Music, singing, and entertainment with the participation of Maltese artists.
